June 22nd, 2026 – Poem #6
If I were a flower
which would I choose?
The tulip with its joyous hues?
Or another with fragrance soothing…
perhaps lavender would be my choosing.
The sunflower with its light-drenched dances,
or the moonflower with its star-dipped glances?
The marigolds are bold in a way quite comely,
but I laud how petunias blush quite humbly.
Lilacs and lilies hold memories moving,
joining the daisies in my childlike musings.
A rose may be among common choices,
and violets I’ve heard among a thousand voices…
But my pondering relies on the supposition
(a truly futile ambition)
that I could ever be born a flower.
No, if I were to sprout from the earth—
my birth being a manner of worth—
I’d likely be a fern,
since we’re both common in our yearn
to be a flower.
